Jesus vs. Elvis

elvisJesus.jpg

The similarities between Jesus Christ and Elvis Presley are almost uncanny. Just check the following parallels for yourself!

  • Jesus said “Love thy neighbor.” Elvis said “Don’t be cruel.”
  • Jesus is the Lord’s shepherd. Elvis dated Cybill Shepherd.
  • Jesus was part of the Trinity. Elvis’ first band was a trio.
  • Jesus walked on water. Elvis surfed (Blue Hawaii, 1965).
  • Jesus’ entourage, the Apostles, had 12 members. Elvis’ entourage, the Memphis Mafia, had 12 members.
  • Jesus was resurrected. Elvis had the famous 1968 “Comeback” TV special and many posthumous mall sightings.
  • Jesus said “If a man thirst, let him come to me, and drink.” (John 7:37). Elvis said “Drinks on me” (Jail House Rock, 1957).
  • Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights. Elvis also had irregular eating habits (eg, 5 banana split breakfast).
  • Jesus is a Capricorn (Dec 25). Elvis is a Capricorn (Jan8).
  • Matthew was a biographer of Jesus. Neil Matthews was a biographer of Elvis (A Golden Tribute).
  • “Jesus countenance…like lightning…raiment snow white.” (Matthew 28:3) Elvis wore snow white jumpsuits with lightning bolts.
  • Jesus lived in a state of grace in a near-eastern land. Elvis lived in Graceland in a nearly eastern state.
  • Jesus’ mother Mary had an immaculate conception. Elvis’ wife Priscilla went to Immaculate Conception H.S.
  • People called Jesus a “…glutton and a drunk.” (Luke 7:34) People called Elvis “…an overweight druggie…”.
  • Jesus died for us. Young girls would ‘die for’ Elvis.
  • Jesus was born in humble surroundings. Elvis was born in Mississippi.
  • Even today Jesus has a cult following. Even today Elvis has a cult following.
  • Jesus was called “King of Israel..” (John 12:13) Elvis was called “King of Rock n’ Roll”.

Was Elvis the 20th-century re-incarnation of Jesus? Hey, decide for yourself…..

Snake Oil? The scientific evidence for health supplements

This image is a “balloon race”. The higher a bubble, the greater the evidence for its effectiveness. But the supplements are only effective for the conditions listed inside the bubble.

You might also see multiple bubbles for certain supps. These is because some supps affect a range of conditions, but the evidence quality varies from condition to condition. For example, there’s strong evidence that Green Tea is good for cholesterol levels. But evidence for its anti-cancer effects is conflicting. In these cases, we give a supp another bubble.

A PUPPY has been born in Japan with a large, clear, love-heart-shaped pattern in his coat.

The chihuahua was born in May as one of a litter to a breeder.

In pictures: Heart-kun, the love-heart puppy

Shop owner Emiko Sakurada said it was the first time a puppy with the marks had been born out of a thousand she had bred.

She had no plans to sell the puppy, which has been named “Heart-kun”.

2 excellent pop-up books

ABC3D

From the lenticular cover that changes with the angle of your hands, all the way to the Z, ABC3D is as much a work of art as it is a pop-up book. Each of the 26 dimensional letters move and change before your eyes. C turns into D with a snap. M stands at attention. X becomes Y with a flick of the wrist. And then there’s U… Boldly conceived and brilliantly executed with a striking black, red, and white palette, this is a book that readers and art lovers of all ages will treasure for years to come.

MARION BATAILLE is graphic and book designer who has never before been published in this country. She lives in Paris. This is just a hand-made mock-up of the actual book which publishes in Oct. 2008.

600 Black Spots

Take a fast track tour through the dizzying universe of David Carters bright and punchy pop culture publication. Renowned as the man who put the POP into POP-UP with his international best seller One Red Dot, Carters latest publication is a paper masterpiece that cannot fail to impress.

Mona Lisa in contemporary street art…

monaLisa1.jpg

Da Vinci’s painting of the young woman has raised many questions over the years, such as, “Who was she?” and “What was she smiling about?” The mystery of the painting has inspired many artists duplicate Da Vinci’s masterpiece in many mediums.

Century-old whisky found in Antarctic

From MSNBC:

WELLINGTON, New Zealand – This Scotch has been on the rocks for a century.

Five crates of Scotch whisky and two of brandy have been recovered by a team restoring an Antarctic hut used more than 100 years ago by famed polar explorer Ernest Shackleton.

Ice cracked some of the bottles that had been left there in 1909, but the restorers said Friday they are confident the five crates contain intact bottles “given liquid can be heard when the crates are moved.”

New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust team leader Al Fastier said the team thought there were two crates and were amazed to find five.

Current distillery owner, drinks group Whyte & Mackay, launched the bid to recover the Scotch whisky for samples to test and decide whether to relaunch the defunct spirit made by distiller McKinlay and Co.

Fastier said restoration workers found the crates under the hut’s floorboards in 2006, but they were too deeply embedded in ice to be dislodged.

The New Zealanders agreed to drill the ice to try to retrieve some bottles, although the rest must stay under conservation guidelines agreed to by 12 Antarctic Treaty nations.

“The unexpected find of the brandy crates, one labeled Chas. Mackinlay & Co and the other labeled The Hunter Valley Distillery Limited Allandale (Australia) are a real bonus,” said Fastier.

Ice has cracked some of the crates and formed inside them. Fastier said in a statement that would make extracting the contents delicate, but the trust would decide how to do so in coming weeks.

Richard Paterson, master blender at Whyte and Mackay, whose company supplied the Mackinlay’s whisky for Shackleton, described the find as “a gift from the heavens for whisky lovers.”

“If the contents can be confirmed, safely extracted and analyzed, the original blend may be able to be replicated. Given the original recipe no longer exists, this may open a door into history,” he said in a statement.

Shackleton’s expedition ran short of supplies on its long ski trek to the South Pole from the northern Antarctic coast in 1907-1909 and turned back about 100 miles (160 kilometers) short of its goal.

The expedition sailed away in 1909 as winter ice formed, leaving behind supplies, including the whisky and brandy.
