Puppies and Flowers : Little Tom the Chihuahua

He is a third of the size of an average guinea pig, and weighs in at just a few ounces – but this tiny puppy could be a big deal when it comes to world records.

The miniscule chihuahua-Jack Russell cross – appropriately named Tom Thumb by its owners – is a serious contender for the title of being the smallest dog on the planet.

Little Tom was born just three weeks ago as part of a surprise litter to mum Spice, a chihuahua. Little Tom

Puppies and Flowers : Abandoned baby hedgehogs are too weak to hibernate

These lame baby hedgehogs are casualties of the chaotic weather.

They should be asleep for the winter – but instead they are nursing their broken bones at Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

The RSPCA says its rescue centres are looking after hundreds of abandoned hedgehogs born during the exceptionally mild autumn and who are too small or weak to hibernate.

Rice paddy art — nice collection of photos and links

From roundup:

Each year, farmers in the town of Inakadate in Aomori prefecture create works of crop art by growing a little purple and yellow-leafed kodaimai rice along with their local green-leafed tsugaru-roman variety.

It will be visible until the rice is harvested in September.

The Illustrations of SIT…

Images link to artist’s gallery.

With ‘Noir’ Sit returns to his bold black & whites, examining the troubled relation between the animal kingdom and mankind even closer. This time around his work is focused on the magnificent beauty of the beast and the way it is used to serve the vanity that is intricate to humanity.

The result is a haunting series that is simultaneously sexy and morbid. The sensual textures of fur and feathers are juxtaposed with pale animal skulls and soft female curves to illustrate the malicious blackness gnawing away at the edges of our sense of beauty.
