No, I’m not obsessed with death. At least, no more than the next person. Honestly, I haven't done any more posts on death than I have any other subject. Worrying about death wastes your time, and time is all you have between right now and death. Still, I’ve been to way too many funerals the last few years. They come in all kinds. Ove the years I’ve reported on many that had brawls, some with police involvement. Remind me to do a post on redneck funerals some day. But today, it’s just plain death and the jokes we make about it to ease our nervousness. Isn't it humam nature to joke about the things that scare us the most? Sex, rejection, and yes, death (just don't joke about it in an airport). After all, death is just part of life, albeit the last part.

The National Safety Council has a chart of the odds of dying from various means. For example, the odds of dying in a pedestrian accident are one in 49,000 in a given year. Some have to be taken with a grain of salt, however. Based on statistics, the odds that you will die by intentional self-poisoning are one in 50,000, but if you don’t do that, you don’t have to worry about it. (Thanks, Bill!)

His boss says, "That’s OK I'll take you around and show you some."

The first body is a man with a smile on his face.

The boss says, "He got 6 numbers on the lottery and had a heart attack, that’s why he has a smile on his face!"

The second body is also a man with a smile on his face.

The boss says, "He was on his honeymoon in bed and had a stroke, that’s why he has a smile on his face!"

The boss says, "That's Bubba. He was struck by lightning,"

FOURTH MARRIAGE

The local news station was interviewing an 80-year-old lady because she had just gotten married -- for the fourth time.

The interviewer asked her questions about her life, about what it felt like to be marrying again at 80, and then about her new husband's occupation.

'He's a funeral director,' she answered.

'Interesting,' the newsman thought. He then asked her if she wouldn't mind telling him a little about her first three husbands and what they did for a living.

She paused for a few moments, needing time to reflect on all those years. After a short time, a smile came to her face and she answered proudly, explaining that she'd first married a banker when she was in her early 20's, then a circus ringmaster when in her 40's, later on a preacher when in her 60's, and now in her 80's, a funeral director.

The interviewer looked at her, quite astonished, and asked why she had married four men with such diverse careers.

She smiled and explained, 'I married one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go.'

Famous Last Words: the Animated Musical

You never get a second chance to make a last impression. Ransom Riggs of mental_floss wrote and directed an animated video that takes us on a tour of famous people in history and their famous last words, all set to a catchy tune amd hosted by the Grim Reaper himself!

30,000 bubble stickers were printed by New York artist Ji Lee.
They are placed on top of OOH ads all over New York City. Passersby fill them in.

Coca-Cola has oversized robot vending machines lumbering around Tokyo pinching the heads of people who prefer a different brand. These robots have been made to the likeness of the 11inch tall desktop toys which feauture the regular as well as the black Coke Zero available in Japan. The toys feature bendy arms and have a little coin slot for saving up your yen and buying more coke.
