I love Flickr. While looking for some reference material I came across this excellent collection. The prints look like lino-cuts or wood blocks.

Puppies and Flowers : Chihuahua puppy born with love-heart pattern in fur (Repost for Valentine's Day)

puppy2.jpg

A PUPPY has been born in Japan with a large, clear, love-heart-shaped pattern in his coat.

The chihuahua was born in May as one of a litter to a breeder.

In pictures: Heart-kun, the love-heart puppy

Shop owner Emiko Sakurada said it was the first time a puppy with the marks had been born out of a thousand she had bred.

She had no plans to sell the puppy, which has been named "Heart-kun".

The video below shows Christo process of working with resin, magnets, pigments and ferrous metal powders, it's amazing to watch the metals in the resin take on the patterns of the magnetic energies.

Art and science recently overlapped in conversations I had with the late Jack Shearer, whose photographs of magnetic imagery (www.nanomagnetics.us) greatly resembled my own abstract compositions. This piece is the first composition with that inquiry in mind. Utilizing different sizes, shapes, and types of magnets of varying strengths, the images came to life by themselves, revealing the energy within them. Correlations between these simple constructions and the forces of natural phenomena that stimulate my imagination and creative expression have already furthered my process of discovery.

Losar — Tibetan New Year Feb 25th — Worldwide Protest

Today, February 25, 2009, is the date on which Tibetan New Year -- Losar -- begins. Many Tibetan exiles around the world are observing Losar in a different manner this year. Some are forgoing traditional observances to instead protest human rights abuses by the Chinese government inside Tibet. There are reports that Chinese authorites are effectively making Losar celebrations inside Tibet compulsory, and reactions have led to violent clashes.

Tunnel with 40,000 LEDs Is the Closest You'll Ever Get to Light Speed

From Gizmodo:

The name of the installation is Multiverse, and it was installed by artist Leo Villareal in a 200-foot-long tunnel in the National Gallery of Art in Washingtong DC. The entire thing features 41,000 LEDs that animate and move on their own, using randomness to ensure that no one will see the same configurations twice. Multiverse will be on display throughout 2009.

The Coen Brothers anti 'clean coal' spot for Reality Campaign

Joel and Ethan Coen shot this spot for Reality.

Spray your tag on West Bank wall!

For 30 Euros, a group of enterprising Palestinian graffiti artists are offering to tag the West Bank wall with your message.

Clip:

It could turn out to be the world's longest graffiti space - the massive concrete barrier separating Israel from the Palestinians.

Over the Internet, a group of Palestinian graffiti artists is offering to spray-paint your personal message on Israel's towering security wall in the occupied West Bank.

It costs 30 euros (NZ$75) per message and they can be as solemn or wacky as you want. Everything goes, except for obscene, offensive or extremist hate speech. Clients get three digital pictures of the finished product.

The 8-metre high barrier of massive concrete slabs is part of a 620-km fence Israel says is intended to keep suicide bombers out, and which can be dismantled at some point in the future when peace reigns. Source

Hilarious email thread — Matthews' Party

From the folks over at 27bslash6.com an email thread regarding a new neighbor and a house-warming party.

The set-up:

A few weeks ago, a guy moved into the apartment across from me. I know little about him apart from the fact that he owns cane furniture as I saw the delivery guys carry it up. I bumped into him on the stairs once and he said hello but I cannot be friends with someone that owns cane furniture so I pretended I had a turtle to feed or something.

Last week when I checked my mailbox, I found that my new neighbour had left me a note stating that he was having a party and to let him know if the noise was too loud.

partyThread.jpg

The problem I have with the note is not that he was having a party and didn't invite me, it was that he selected a vibrant background of balloons, effectively stating that his party was going to be vibrant and possibly have balloons and that I couldn't come.

If I was writing a note to my neighbours saying that I was going to have a party but none of them could come, I would not add photos of ecstasy tablets, beer and gratuitous shots of Lucius going down on men to show them what they are missing out on, I would make it clean and simple, possibly even sombre, so they didn't think 'you prick'.

Then the emails begin:

From: David Thorne
Date: Monday 8 Dec 2008 11.04am
To: Matthew Smythe
Subject: R.S.V.P.

Dear Matthew,
Thankyou for the party invite. At first glance I thought it may be a child's party what with it being vibrant and having balloons but I realise you probably did your best with what little tools were available. I wouldn't miss it for the world. What time would you like me there?

Regards, David.

Subject: Re: R.S.V.P.

Hi David
Sorry the note was just to let you know that we might be a bit loud that night. The house warming is really just for friends and family but you can drop past for a beer if you like.
Cheers Matthew

Thanks Matthew,
Including me in your list of friends and family means a lot. You and I don't tend to have long discussions when we meet in the hallway and I plan to put a stop to that. Next time we bump into each other I intend to have a very long conversation with you and I am sure you are looking forward to that as much as I am. I have told my friend Ross that you are having a party and he is as excited as I am. Do you want us to bring anything or will everything be provided?

Regards, David.
