The first time I saw this Purell mosaic, apart from liking it instantly, I was curious about its story. Was it pandemic guerilla marketing for Purell? What was the tie-in with the potholes? Well, it turns out they are the work of Chicago artist Jim Bachor who has been filling them from New York to Los Angeles, with his tile mosaics since 2013. They are in effect his canvas and a plentiful canvas at that!

This is just a small sampling from his New York and Chicago mosaics. He has cemented potholes in Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Nashville, Finland and Italy. Check out this interactive map. On his website, there are lots more photos and a store with prints and T-shirts.
